Halfway Up
03:19
|
|||
There will always be
Someone ahead
So set your own rules
For the journey
The view from the top
Is mighty fine
But the view half way
Is not bad
Stop for while you
Smell the roses
Think while you
Boiling the egg
Give yourself a break
Settle for a little less
Be happy to have
Got this far
Count your blessings
See how far you have come
You've got this far through life
Well done!
Half way up the tree
Its a pretty good place
For you and me
To be

Lockdown

Lockdown
We’re on Lockdown
In our homes
We’re all shut down
In our homes
I miss friends and family
And holding hands
There’s a new kind of fear
Stalking the land
And we’re changing
Mantra’s
We recite them
We clap for hero’s
In the night then
We follow the science
Keep watching the R
New ways of working
Finding our who we are
And we’re changing
Twenty, Twenty
We didn’t have the vision
We see others
Who can inspire us
Keep two meters
Avoid the virus
We’re finding out
What we really need
Re arranging our world
Cutting back on the greed
And we’re changing.

Searchlight
03:25
|

Its hard to keep your chin up
When we're facing the end
So many things now
Driving me round the bend
Feel like a specimen
Trapped in a bell jar
Switch off the servers
Its all gone too far
Stand on the beach
Watch the crashing waves
Jumbled thoughts about
Never being slaves

Clearing the Floor
03:50
|
|||
Forty years ago
A child helped you put this up
Now you are the child
You can help me take it down
Laying the concrete floor
You were the man
Who knew so much more
Than me
Now this old garage
Is cluttered and dusty
Full of Possessions
And those memories
All those things kept
Just in case.
Do they still have a value?
Still have a face?
A task that needs doing
Poignant memories sad
But I'm sharing the moments
With my dear old dad
Changing roles
The passage of time
Passing on the baton
Moving up on the line
Clearing the floor
Clearing the metaphor
Clearing the passage
Of time

Kings Cross 74
04:00
|
|||
Sipping tea in an all night Wimpy
Kings Cross in 74
Missed the last train home
After the party
I didn’t wan to sleep on the floor
The bright lights of London
A young man’s awakening
Soho and Carnaby street
In awe of guitars
I look over my shoulder
And there’s the face of Greg Lake
Ch
No matter how the years turn
The memory burns
It’s one in the morning
I’m outside the Wimpy
It’s a dirty and dangerous place
An empty bench
I lie down in the station
Look up to see a friendly face
Where you off to son
The night guard asked me
as I sit curled up on the shelf
Get yourself on the mail train north now
He’s probably a father himself
No matter how the years turn
The memory burns

June
03:59
|
|||
It must have been strange June
To find me in your room
Even though it’s now
Early September.
Your dinner party conversation
Flowed without hesitation
Though the subjects
I have find hard now to remember.
The Gatsbys and the Spatsbys
The Lavinia don’t do thatsbys
Appalled and enthralled
By your charms.
You made Aunt Maud applaud
Uncle Bertie seemed less bored
Freddie and Henrietta
Were disarmed.
Brother Charlie gave you
The glad eye
You made sister Susan sigh
Your coquettish smile
Left cousin Richard
Almost melted to the floor.
But your charming little glances
Led me to take my chances
So here I am standing
At your door.
Oh June
May I come into your room
Please excuse the lateness of the hour
I want to rise to the occasion
Be the carpel to your stamen
Be the bee collecting honey
From your flower
I've fallen for your charms
Please fall into my arms
Lets share the remainder
Of this night
We'd play comedies and dramas
Both in our silk pyjamas
If I could hold you
Until the early morning light.
It would hardly be a sin
If you'd just let me in
Come here my dear
Lets take advantage of this chance.

Contagious Benediction
03:33
|
|||
The facts remain
But perspectives change
I see you now
As the man you really are
A selfish creature
With a mind firmly shut
If I were harder hearted
I'd tell you how I feel
I can't change you
Today or any day
But the stars are re aligning
For the better
If I'm not here
I'll be somewhere else
Drive to the end of the world
I'll be just down the road.
I'm not there
But here and now
The box marked pain
Can be buried in the ground
Thirty years to realise
Thirty days to react
Feelings in their
Proper place at last
Serenity spreads
A contagious benediction
Released at last
A contagious benediction

Walk in the Light
04:08
|
|||
Like a star in the daytime
You just can't see me
The world revolves around you
Like a star in the daytime
You just can't see me
You have a different view
I built your foundations
left before your graduation
Abandoned the building of you
Tried to be from a distance
But I accept my persistence
Left us stuck in a place
That's not true
Ch
Ah but once I shone
Bright in your night sky
You walked in the light from me
Once I lifted you
High on my shoulders
Showed you all you could see
Time moves on
And I've reluctantly discarded
A suitcase worth of feelings
Slowly letting go
My emotional baggage
A heart that's finally healing
So go your own way
For now I'm redundant
In a world I used to hold dear
Make your own world
Create your own language
If you speak I hope I can hear

Have we run out of time

Hung out on the line

Have we run out of steam

Gliding
03:25
|
|||
Gliding with my son
Across the sky
Sun on my face
And the wind rushing by
Got a feeling of pure perfection
Gliding in all directions
The air is taking me higher
For a glorious moment I’m flying
Rising up so high
Above the clouds
Sweeping along
So far from the ground
Together we’re sharing these feelings
Emotions and bodies both reeling
A father and son to the end
Re connecting as friends
The sky’s a big, big place
I feel the sun on my face
And that’s fine
Soaring into the blue like my heart
The smile on his face takes me back
To the start
I got a feeling of pure perfection
Moving in all directions
The air is taking me higher
For a glorious moment I’m flying

Stone Nicely Stone
03:43
|
|||
She cries over Verdi
She cane weep to Debussy
She cries over Verdi
She can weep to Debussy
But I’ve heard her in the shower
Singing AC/DC
It’s colours she’s hearing
Dark Purple, marine
She’s my artistic queen
Oh Stone nicely stone
Your loved by so many
Stone nicely stone
I’ll say it right now
Stone nicely stone
I love you more than any
Stone nicely stone
More than anyone else
She can be clumsy
Sometimes things get broken
She can be clumsy
Sometimes things get broken
But she’s bright and she’s hones
It’s never left unspoken
Oh stone nicely Stone….
Like trying to guide a butterfly
Or a fawn on a frozen lake
With her ever changing focus
Child like wonder
She creates
The soul of a cat
And the heart of a flower
The soul of a cat
and the heart of a flower
When she’s lost in the making
Cut painting, creating
She can lose track of the hour.

Exploring
03:24
|
|||
Its another small adventure
Heading somewhere new
What’s just round the corner
Let’s find another view
We can choose, what we do
Out little explorations
Enjoy the country air
Looking to the future
And the memories
We can share if we dare
Far enough
To be somewhere different
Close enough
To be home for tea
Far enough
For a little adventure
It only works
If you come with me
Country churches
And little towns
Secret woodlands
And ancient grounds
Where we found each other
Ham and chips
One from the keg
Back a different way
On the homeward leg
Far enough
To be somewhere different
Close enough
To be home for tea
Far enough
For a little adventure
It only works
If you come with me
